My husband and I along with our 2 young boys (3 & 4) rented a cabin for Labor Day weekend. Yes, check in was a little awkward, but I paid the rest of what was owed after deposit and was given my key and shown which cabin we were in and where to park. The inside of the cabin was gorgeous! Everything was real clean and put together nicely! All we needed to bring were towels, toiletries, and groceries. There was a refrigerator, microwave, stove, coffee pot, all pots, pans, dishes, glasses, silverware, etc. The view outside the cabin was breathtaking! We saw the owner outside a few times and he spoke with us and was very nice. We ran out of cash the last night we stayed (you will need cash to purchase anything at the campgrounds) and didn't want to go into town to buy more firewood, and the owner actually gave us some wood for free! We had a great experience and plan to come back

Although we were not, it looked as though most of the other guests were there to fish. The campground provides a shack for gutting and cleaning your fish. I think this is mostly a seasonal campsite place with a few daily/weekly RV sites.

I would highly recommend Northern Exposure, Chetek, Wisconsin, if you want your up north fishing experience to be fantastic. We are a newly-retired couple who have been chasing fish all over Minnesota and Wisconsin, in the Boundary Waters, on big lakes, small lakes, and this is the best spot of them all. We're never going anywhere else. I am the wife of a fisherman who can't wait to go back as soon as we get home. Others fishermen go after the big blue gills and haul them in, too. My husband claims the fish-cleaning house is by far the best we've run into. The grounds are well kept, the campers friendly, and the half dozen or so cabins are new and modern. It is always quiet and peaceful, too. Not your typical run down place that caters just to the men. They are just wonderful accommodations, with nice decorating touches. Every year we come, there are new cabins, boats, motors or something to improve our experience. We enjoy eating at Gilligan's, accessible by boat or car. There's a great bar in town with pizza, too. Also, there are a couple of boutiques for shopping in Chetek if you need a break in the routine and do not want to drive far. We just LOVE it there. &Laurel and Don, Clinton, Iowa.

This review is of the grounds and RV campground area, we did not rent a cabin. My family and I rented an RV site for a couple of days at Northern Exposure. Cost of a site with a high-voltage electrical hookup was about $30/night.

we're all old !

Dealt with the owners a couple times and although I wouldn't say they were overtly rude, they weren't friendly either. Went to the camp store to buy ice and the lady seemed very put out that I would bother her to buy ice. The guy we dealt with was condescending with us a couple different times. Sometimes the people are the reason you return year after year to a certain spot. Not in this case, we'll try somewhere else next year.

The good: price was right, bathrooms and coin activated showers were clean, pontoon was available for rent, plenty of shade from tall trees, site was picturesque and steps from Mud Lake and the channel connecting to the Lake Chetek chain of lakes.

I am so glad the owners overcame their life threatening illness (spring 2013). I applause the owners for a great job done, for a Ma & Pa operation I can hardly believe the work they do and the high quality emphasized.

The bad: pontoon rental was $150/day plus you had to pay for gas. Probably the right price for a nice pontoon, but this pontoon was filthy, infested with spiders, there was no gas gauge, and you pay $6/gallon for gas. There isn't a place to swim at the campground/resort and even if there was, the water is a pea soup green color.
